ICSSR to conduct research on NRI brides
New Delhi: The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), a body under the HRD ministry, is planning to conduct research on NRI brides in the country. ICSSR chairman BB Kumar said there has been no research on how many such marriages are performed and what ultimately is their status. “What happens to the girls who are cheated? Do we need stricter norms? All this needs to be studied,” he added. PTI

Dutch skater to visit India in search of mother
New Delhi: Mumbai-born Dutch speed skater Anice Das, who will be in action during next month’s Winter Olympics, is planning to visit the country of her origin in search of her biological parents after giving her best in South Korea. The resolve to find her mother got stronger after the 32-year-old topped the 500m race at the Olympics qualifying event in The Netherlands. Anice has never been to India ever since she was adopted by a Dutch couple as an eight-month-old along with her twin sister. PTI

Daryaganj book market closed for 4th Sunday
New Delhi: It was an unprecedented fourth Sunday in a row when Delhi’s famous Daryaganj weekly book market was not allowed to function. Though the East Delhi Municipal Corporation orders the closure of the makeshift market every year on a Sunday before Republic Day, this year the market was closed a month before in the name of preparing for an ASEAN summit to be held from January 23 to 25.
